Global Money Week, March 9-17, 2015
This year International Children and Youth Finance Day and Global Money Week have been celebrated for the third time in the Republic of Belarus by holding educational financial games for children and youth.
International Children and Youth Finance Day was first celebrated at the initiative of CYFI nonprofit organization (Children Youth Finance International) in 2012. Created in Amsterdam in July 2011, this organization solves the problems of children and youth in a financial sphere, develops and distributes banking services available for children and enhances financial inclusion through financial education all over the world.
It is necessary to say that in 2012 only 26 countries celebrated International Children and Youth Finance Day, while in 2013 there were already 80 countries participating in the celebration, and in 2014 — more than 100 countries.
This year Global Money Week was held on March 9-17. Banks, Finance Market Associations and other interested organizations made preparations for the celebration of this event.
On March 9, 2015, the first day of Global Money Week, a festal trading opening ceremony with the participation of children was held by OJSC Belarusian Currency Stock Exchange. Symbolic ringing the opening stock exchange bell (“Ring around the world”) by young potential finance market participants marked the start of Global Money Week in the Republic of Belarus. In 2014 similar ceremonies were held in 23 countries, including the world leading stock exchanges of New York, London and Brussels.
On March 10, 2015 the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus summed up the results and rewarded the winners of the project "12 Money Lessons" with "Perehodny vozrast" newspaper for teenagers.
On March13, 2015 the National Bank and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union organized the online video event "Worldwide Youth Talks" in which Belarusian youth participated. With the help of modern communication means young people from all over the world were discussing the finance topics and sharing personal savings control experience. These arrangements were held in two Minsk educational institutions.
On March 16, 2015 the National Bank held the economic games tournament among universities students with the help of the Libertex company producing and selling table games.
Another important planned arrangement included three days’ financial training for teachers of Minsk schools according to the Aflatoon international fund strategy. Teachers learned methods of organization and giving classes for children and youth (6-18 years), as well as received necessary experience and knowledge for conducting facultative classes on financial inclusion in their schools. The training event was held on April 1-3, 2015 in the National Bank building at Tolstoy St. 6.
